To understand the long-term consequences of design decisions we envisage the building in its context, in use, in a process of maturing and adapting. We consider people's use and perception of space, material and light. We investigate the specific character of a place, its climate, local culture, existing situation, and landscape. We explore opportunities to (re)use materials economically, save and produce energy, purify water and air, and avoid waste production.

Sustainable design does not conflict with aspiration towards innovative and seducing architecture. On the contrary. We draw inspiration from living systems and processes to create intelligent, original and innovative design solutions, both high-tech and based on ancient vernacular construction methods. Nature, in its diversity and beauty, is the model for sustainable design.
