With the demolition of an entire city block between Mozes and Aaron Church and the Portuguese Synagoge in 1968, Mr. Visserplein was created. The square was to become an important traffic node and a tunnel was constructed to connect the new IJ tunnel with traffic axis Wibautstraat. A few years ago the tunnel was closed to traffic and the square was captured by cars. Can we give the square back to the city by changing it into a usable and interesting public space?

The main aim here is urban intensification: to reinforce the use of the city centre by increasing residential density and adding offices and small scale retail.
